TEMPE - The Arizona mens tennis team wrapped up its dual match season today with a loss to rival Arizona State 7-0 at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.
Last time these teams met, the match finished 4-3 with the deciding point coming down to the final court.
Today would be a different story.
Arizona State won the doubles point when they clinched courts one and two. Jay Goldman made his return to the lineup playing on court one with teammate Claudio Christen but were defeated 8-5 by TJ Bellama and Matt Brooklyn.
With the doubles point already going to the Devils, court 3 was called a draw.
In singles, freshman Andres Carrasco injured himself on court two and was forced to withdraw, giving ASU its second point.
The Cats would go onto lose 4 of the next 5 singles matches in straight sets. Senior Bruno Alcala looked to be in command as he won his first set 6-1. But J.C. Rebaza came back narrowly by squeezing out the second set 7-6 (6) and then the tiebreaker 11-9.
Arizona now will shift its attention to the Pac-10 Championships next week as they will travel to Ojai, Calif. April 24-27.
