TUCSON--The University of Arizona community will welcome back the 2007 NCAA Softball Champion softball team with a public gathering in McKale Center Thursday afternoon.


The Wildcats earned the program's eighth national title with a victory over Tennessee, ####, Wednesday night at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.


McKale doors open at 2 p.m., with the championship game and other softball highlight features to be shown on the video board. Seating for the public will be in the south end of the arena.


The UA team, flying back to Arizona through Phoenix, will arrive on charter bus around 3 p.m. and enter McKale Center at floor level.  Head coach Mike Candrea, staff and the entire team will be on hand.


UA President Robert Shelton and Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano also may be on hand to fete the Wildcats' eighth national championship accomplished since 1991. The Cats became three-time repeat titlists (also 1993-94 and 1996-97) with their victory over the Lady Vols. 


Parking for the public will be free in all available UA lots surrounding McKale Center after 2 p.m.  Entry for the Cherry Avenue Garage must be southbound off Cherry (either from Speedway or the Mall) due to construction on the south end of that facility.
