WALNUT CREEK, Calif.?- Arizona outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 7-12, after leading Arizona to a 3-0 record and the championship of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic. This is the second time in her career that Abernathy has received the honor.
Abernathy, a junior from Antioch, Calif., was named MVP of the Wildcat Classic after leading No. 19 Arizona to upsets of No. 9 Pepperdine and No. 18 Louisville. It was the first time since the 2001 season that the Wildcats recorded back-to-back wins over ranked opponents.
In Arizona’s sweep of Pepperdine, Abernathy finished with 21 kills on 42 attempts with only five errors for a .381 hitting percentage. In the championship match against Louisville, she recorded her third double-double of the season with 19 kills and 12 digs.
For the week, Abernathy collected 50 kills (5.00 kpg) with 22 errors on 111 attempts, while notching 25 digs (2.50 dpg). She collected a total of 53.5 points (5.35 ppg).
On the season, Abernathy averages 4.36 kills and 2.16 digs per game.
