LAS VEGAS-The Arizona men's golf team fired a final round of 3-over-par 291, its best team score of the 54-hole tournament, at the Las Vegas Collegiate on Sunday. Leading the final round charge for Arizona was junior Ricky Barnes, who posted a third-round of 2-under 70 to finish tied for 19th.
Georgia Tech claimed the tournament title after shooting a final-round 281 to close the tournament at 20-under-par 844. Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech took the individual title after he carded his second consecutive round of 3-under 69. Matteson finished 54 holes tied with Camilo Villegas of Florida, but won the individual crown in a playoff.
Sophomore Chris Nallen posted Arizona's best finish, taking a tie for 12th place at 1-over-par for the tournament. Nallen shot 1-over 73 Sunday. Junior Reid Hatley joined Barnes in an eight-golfer tie for 19th place. Hatley posted rounds 72, 73 and 73 to wrap up action at 218.
Also competing for the Widlcats was freshman Kipp Riehle, who tied for 45th place at 9-over-par. Riehle fired a final round of 4-over-par 76 Sunday. Senior Tim Weiss rounded out the Arizona lineup, taking 74th place after shooting 3-over 75 Sunday to finish the tournament at 18-over.
The Wildcats are out of action until March 25 when they travel to the Oregon Duck Invitational.
