Women's Golf Slips To Ninth Place at Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona women's golf team slipped to ninth place at the Wildcat Invitational Tuesday after posting a second-round score of 315. Freshman Erica Blasberg moved into a tie for first place as she shot 73 to bring her two-day total to even-par 142.

Pepperdine, on the strength of four individuals in the top 20, leads the tournament with 18 holes remaining. The Waves stand at 586 (+18) to lead second-place Southern California (594, +26) by eight strokes entering Wednesday's final round. Arizona State (595, +27) and Tennessee (602, +34) round out the top four squads. Arizona's two-day total of 612 (+44) places it 26 strokes back of the tournament lead. Pepperdine's Carolina Llano shares first place with Blasberg.

Blasberg began Tuesday's second round on a tear as she birdied her first two holes and stood at 3-under-par through 12 holes, but closed the day at two-over par after she triple bogeyed hole No. 17. Also highlighting the day for Arizona was freshman Cassandra Kirkland, who is tied for tenth place after she shot 5-over-par 76 Tuesday. Kirkland, who is making her collegiate debut and competing as an individual, shares 10th place with two other golfers at 148 (+6).

 
 

Senior Laura Myerscough fell to 34th place after she shot 10-over-par 81 Tuesday, her two-day total is 152 (+10). Senior Anne Lee matched her opening-round score as she posted a 78 (+7), she is tied for 50th place at (+14). Rounding out the Arizona lineup are sophomore Miriam Kraschinski and freshman Whitney Welch. Kraschinski stands in 72nd place at 20-over-par 162, while Welch is in 92nd place at 29-over-par 171.

Senior Julia Kraschinski (76-83-159, +17) and redshirt freshman Katie Christy (82-88-170, +28) are competing for Arizona as individuals. They stand in 64th and 91st places, respectively.

The Wildcat Invitational concludes Wednesday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start at Arizona National Golf Club. Arizona will play the final round with Washington, Nevada-Las Vegas and Arkansas.
