Danielle Steinberg has been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Mar. 2 - 8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Steinberg led Arizona to its first Conference win since 2007, defeating Washington State, 6-1. The Tel Aviv, Israel, native took down Ekaterina Kamendova, 6-4, 6-0. In doubles, she paired with Sarah Landsman to top the Cougars' team of Marina Nicolas and Bianca Selaru, 8-2. Despite falling to Washington on Mar. 7, Steinberg earned a win in the No. 1 singles position over the Huskies' Venise Chan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. She also picked up another doubles victory with Landsman, taking down Aleksandra Malovic and Lina Xu of Washington, 9-7.
"Dani battled hard for her wins this past weekend," Said head coach Vicky Maes, "She struggled a bit in the past weeks, had some back luck here and there, but was able to put it behind her and come up with victories this weekend. She truly deserves this recognition."
This is the third Player of the Week accolade for Steinberg, the only player to earn the weekly honor for Arizona.
Up next for Steinberg and the Wildcats, they will be traveling to Fresno, California to take on Penn and Fresno State March 13 and 14. Friday's game will start at noon and Saturday's will begin at 10:30 a.m.
