TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona sits 15 strokes back in the Anteater Invitational, held at El Niguel Country Club, a par 72, 7,016 yard course in Laguna Niguel, California. Host UC Irvine leads the field, and Anteater John Chin leads the field individually at three under after the two rounds played Monday.

With two golfers in the top four, UC Irvine, at nine-over, holds a six stroke lead over second place UTEP. The Miners held onto the second spot they acquired in the first round by shooting a 299 (+11) in the second round. Also shooting a 299 in the second round was CSU-Northridge, improving to third place on the day. Three strokes behind CSU-Northridge is Sacramento State, which earned the fourth place spot with a 597 (+21). Loyola Marymount, which was in third after the first round, struggled to a 309 (+21) second, dropping them to a tie for sixth. The LMU mishap made way for Arizona to crack the top five, carding a cumulative total of 600 (+24).

Chin shot a 68 (-4) in the first round, which proved to be the lowest score of the day, and backed it up with a 71 (-1) in the second round, giving him a three stroke lead. The only other player under par, Geoff Gonzalez of Cal Poly, is two-under after the first two rounds. In third place, Nick Delio of CSU-Northridge sits at par heading into the final day. One stroke behind Delio is Sean Shahi of UC Irvine. Shahi was two strokes behind teammate Chin after the first round, but a shaky second round left him six strokes behind the leader. UTEP’s Roger Sloan is in fifth at 146 (+2).

Andrew Kelly and Nick Park carded rounds of 149 (+5), putting them in a tie for 11th. Each Wildcat is looking for his first top ten finish of the season. They sit one stroke outside of that mark right now. Philip Bagdade, who has finished in the top ten each of his last two tournaments, shot a 151 (+7), tying him for 19th. Two strokes behind Bagdade is Tom Conran in 26th. At 157 (+13), Peter Ireland is in a tie for 38th.

The third and final round will be contested tomorrow.
