TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with its 3-0 victory over Cal Poly. Gianna DeSaverio led the Wildcats with two goals in the first half.

“It’s a nice way to start the weekend,” said Head Coach Dan Tobias. “Up until the first two goals we hadn’t played that exceptionally well.”

DeSaverio, a sophomore, scored at the 7:55 mark to give Arizona the early lead. The goal came off a scramble in the box. DeSaverio scored her second goal, her fifth of the season, on a breakaway at the 25:40 mark with a shot from the left side of the box that hit off the right post before going in. She was assisted on the goal by London King.

Sally Thurner gave the Wildcats a commanding 3-0 lead with her first goal of the season at the 67:10 mark, assisted by DeSaverio.

Chelsea McIntyre led the Arizona defense in posting her third consecutive shutout. She had six saves in the game.

Chelsea did a good job of managing the game in front of her,” said Tobias.

The Wildcats spent much of the night on the attack, out shooting the Mustangs 19 to 13.

Arizona, which improved to 5-2-0 on the season, will be in action again on Sunday, Sept. 17 when it takes on Montana at 1 p.m.
