WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona junior Aubrey Taylor has been named the Pac-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of Jan. 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Taylor, a native of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, captured the first all-around title of her career last week while helping the team to its season-best score of 195.875. Taylor, who competed in the all-around for the fourth time this season after not competing on vault in 2005, set new season-high’s in all four events, and earned her highest all-around score, 39.175, since February 20, 2004.

For the second consecutive week, Taylor turned in a near-flawless routine on the uneven parallel bars, again tying her career-best mark of 9.900 to claim her second title in as many weeks. Her performances on the bars to date are a strong part of the reason the Wildcats rank No. 3 nationally and first in the Pac-10 in the event. The 5-4 junior also placed third on the balance beam, scoring a 9.750 to help the Wildcats to a 48.725, a team-high for the season. She also tallied a 9.800 to take fourth-place individually behind a trio of Wildcats that shared the individual title on floor, again helping Arizona to a season-high 49.050 in the event. Taylor also added her best score of the season, a 9.725, on vault.

Taylor, who has improved her all-around total in each of the last three meets, has also broken 39.075 in the last two, both dual-meets against Pac-10 foes.

This is the first such honor for Taylor who earned recognition on the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention list in 2005. She becomes the first Arizona gymnast to earn the accolades this season. Last year, seniors Monica Bisordi and Katie Johnson each were recognized as Pac-10 Gymnasts of the Week.

The No. 10 Wildcats will be at home again this Friday as they take on the Washington Huskies at 7:30 p.m. in McKale Center.
