LAS VEGAS, Nev. ?C The Arizona womenˇ?s golf team is in third place following the first round of play at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by UNLV.? The Wildcats carded a one-under 287 on Monday, to trail leader Tennessee by five strokes.? As a team, the Wildcats gathered twelve birdies in the first round.

Katie Kemper of Denver and Marci Turner of Tennessee are tied for first with a score of 67 (-5).

The tournament is being held at the Angel Park Golf Course, which stretches 6,722 yards and is a par-72.

Leading the Wildcats is freshman Alejandra Llaneza, who is in fourth place following the best round of her young career at Arizona.? The Mexico City, Mexico, product shot a three-under 69, highlighted by a team-leading five birdies.

Senior Alison Walshe and junior Adriana Zwanck are tied for tenth place after carding identical scores of even-par 72.? Two strokes behind in senior Mary Jacobs, who is currently tied for 27th place.

Junior Amanda Wilson carded a four-over 76 in the first round to stand in a tie for 51st place.

Competing as an individual for the Wildcats is sophomore Brittany Benvenuto, who is tied for 65th place with a score of 78 (+6).

The tournament continues tomorrow with a second round tee time scheduled for 7:30 am MST.
