WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Arizona sophomore outfielder Brittany Lastrapes has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for April 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Lastrapes, a native of Laguna Niguel, Calif., helped the ninth-ranked Arizona Wildcats sweep the home series against the Bay Area schools, picking up at least two hits in each game and batting in 10 runs over the weekend. On Friday, Lastrapes faced the second-ranked Stanford Cardinal's ace Missy Penna. The sophomore notched three hits in four at bats, including a three-run home run which secured the 12-4 victory for the Wildcats.
Setting the tone Saturday night against No. 14 California, Lastrapes singled to lead off Arizona in the first inning, only to make the rotation and hit a grand slam later in the first. On the weekend, the Wildcat tallied seven hits including knocking out a home run in all three games.
This marks the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Lastrapes and the 125th in Arizona history.
Up Next: Arizona takes on UCLA and Washington in a weekend series beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
Schedule Note: Arizona has rescheduled its postponed game against Arizona State for a 5 p.m. start time on April 29 in Tempe, prior to the originally scheduled 7 p.m. game against the Sun Devils.
The game was scheduled for April 11 in Tucson, but rain forced the postponement of the contest.
The game will resume with a 2-2 score in the bottom of the third with no outs, Jenae Leles on first and a full count to Stacie Chambers. Sarah Akamine (Arizona) and Hillary Bach (ASU) are currently the pitchers of record.
UA will remain the designated home team.
