TUCSON, Ariz. - Shimmy Gray, an assistant coach with the Arizona women’s basketball team for the past two years, is leaving the program to become the head coach at Saint Louis University.
"I’m very happy for Shimmy," Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini said. "I think she’ll be a terrific head coach. She’s smart, energetic, is an excellent recruiter and is a good on-the-floor coach. She relates well with young people, is an excellent role model and is great in the community. I think she’ll do a great job there. The people at Saint Louis will be very pleased."
During her time with the Wildcats, Gray was involved with recruiting, scouting and on-floor coaching of both guards and post players. For the past three years she has been invited to speak at workshops sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and conducted at the NCAA convention. Gray also writes a column for adolescent girl basketball players and their parents for the website "Hoop Gurlz."
