TUCSON, Ariz.- The sixth-ranked Arizona volleyball team found little trouble with American University Saturday morning at the Louisville Labor Day Invitational. The Wildcats swept the Eagles 3-0 to improve to 2-0 in the young season. Game scores were 30-20, 30-28, 30-21. The victory improved head coach David Rubio's Arizona record to 199-97, one away from his 200th as the Wildcats' coach.
As a team, the Wildcats controlled through out the match as they out-hit the Eagles .317 to .126 and out blocked them 15 to 1.
Individually, senior Shannon Torregrosa led the Wildcat attack with 19 kills on .400 hitting. She also added eight digs, three service aces and eight total blocks in the win. Freshman Kim Glass followed an impressive first match Friday night with 12 kills and five digs Saturday morning.
Senior Lisa Rutledge added eight kills with out committing an error on 18 swings for a .444 attack percentage and also chipped in with a match-high 11 digs. Classmate Rachel Williams came up with 10 digs at the libero position, while redshirt freshman Angie Ayers helped out the Arizona effort at the net with seven block assists.
American's Karia Kucerkova led her team with 11 kills, but also committed a match-high 11 attack errors for .000 hitting percentage.
The Wildcats will attempt to hand Rubio his 200th career Arizona win this afternoon when they match up with invitational host Louisville at 4:30 p.m. Tucson time.
