Women's tennis finishs day one of Matador Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif--The Arizona women's tennis team finished ofthe first day of the 2009 Matador Intercollegiate Invitational with a pair of wins in singles.

Sophomore Natasha Marks defeated Nevada's Emma Verberne 6-3, 6-2 in the Flight A round of 16, and sophomore Debora Castany defeated UC Santa Barbara's Annabel Gledden 6-3, 6-1 in the Flight B round of 16.

Junior Jane Huh dropped her match to Concordia's Kristen Yep 6-4, 6-4, and in doubles, Huh and Marks lost 9-7 to Cal State Stanislaus' Katie Eng and Verena Preikschas.

"Our tennis is definitely improving," said assistant coach Ryan Stotland, "We've learned a lot from today's matches, and we will learn from our mistakes and get better every day."

Play at the Matador Intercollegiate Invitational continues through Sunday.
