TUCSON--The UA's football game this Saturday against No. 3-ranked Southern California sold out Tuesday, guaranteeing a second capacity crowd this year for the 2-1 Wildcats.
UA plays host to the Trojans at 5:13 p.m. Saturday at Arizona in a game to be televised live on a split-national basis by ABC Sports.
UA's home game to open the year against Brigham Young on Sept. 2 drew a capacity crowd of 58,450 and sold out a day before the game. The week started with about 1,100 Tickets for this week's contest and those were gone earlier today, according to James Francis, assistant athletics director for ticketing.
The USC crowd should hit the top 10 chart in Arizona football history. The BYU game checked in at the ninth-largest.
Francis said there might be a final chance for patrons to get tickets to the USC game, but only if Southern California returns some of its allotment before the end of the week. If so, those would go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the stadium box office at East Sixth Street and North Cherry Avenue. There is no guarantee at this point that there will be any returns. Online sales have closed and will not be in effect for any returns, he said.
