TUCSON, Ariz . ?C After a hard fought match, the Arizona womenˇ?s tennis team got the best of UC Santa Barbara, 4-3 today at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Cats won the doubles point with victories on courts one and two.? Danielle Steinberg and Claire Rietsch beat Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic, 8-1, while Natalia Toporowska and Katie Orletsky won in a tiebreaker 9-8 over Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga.
On court three, the Gauchos duo of Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen defeated Ariane Masschelein and Jane Huh, 8-5.
Some highlights for Arizona during singles included Steinberg beating Simic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Also, Orletsky won for the second day in a row. The sophomore defeated Kausen, 6-1, 6-4, for her third straight win.
But no match was bigger for the Cats than Masscheleinˇ?s court five battle with Hausman. Hausman went ahead a set by winning 6-3. Then Masschelein rebounded winning the second set 6-4. With the match on the line, Masschelein stepped up again and won set three and the match for Arizona.
The Cats are now 6-6 and will travel to the Bay Area to face Stanford and California next weekend.
