TUCSON - The No. 26-ranked Arizona Wildcat women's tennis team is back in action as they host two Pac-10 teams at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Cats (10-2) will begin Pac-10 play against Oregon and No. 71 Washington State.
In the last two weeks, the Wildcats have climbed 33 spots in the ITA rankings by winning six of their last seven duel matches. Also making their way into the rankings is the junior duo Sarah Landsman and Natasha Marks. In the No. 1 position of doubles, the team is 10-1 in duel play and has earned a No. 67 national ranking. Marks has also jumped into the singles rankings with a 9-3 record in dual play to secure the No. 99 national singles ranking.
Last weekend, the Cats traveled to Boise, Idaho to take on No. 42 Boise State and No. 46 Saint Mary's at BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex. Against the Broncos, the Cats clinched the doubles point and went on to win four of six singles matches for a 5-2 victory. After dropping the doubles point against Saint Mary's, the Wildcats came back to win four of six singles matches to clinch a 4-3 win over the Gaels.
On Fri., March 4, Arizona will host the Oregon Ducks (6-4, 0-2 Pac-10). Last weekend, the Ducks fell to two top-ranked Pac-10 teams. The Ducks dropped their Pac-10 opener to No. 1 Stanford, 7-0. Oregon also fell to No. 6 California, 7-0.
On Sat., March 5, the Cats will take on No. 71 Washington State. The Cougars (8-5, 0-2 Pac-10) dropped both of their matches last weekend as they began Pac-10 play. The Cougars opened against No. 6 California and dropped the match, 7-0. No.1 Stanford also blanked Washington State on Sat. February 26.
The Cats are set to play Oregon at 1:30 p.m. on Fri., March 4 and No. 71 Washington State at noon on Sat., March 5. Both matches will be held at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
