TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat women's basketball signee Kama Griffitts, a sophomore playing for North Idaho College, led her team to the NJCAA Women's Basketball Championship title this weekend and was named MVP of the tournament for her efforts.
In four games played, Griffitts scored 86 points and averaged 21.5 points per game while also collecting 6.0 rebounds per game. In the championship game, Griffitts led NIC with 22 points and made four three-point baskets.
North Idaho College (32-3) won its first-ever NJCAA Championship in women's basketball with a 90-81 victory over Trinity Valley (Texas) Saturday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kan. The NIC Lady Cardinals shocked the tournament field by first taking out No. 1 seed and undefeated Pensacola State (Fla.) on Friday in the semifinals.
Griffitts was announced as an addition to the 2011-12 Wildcats' roster on Nov. 15, 2010 when she signed her National Letter of Intent. She is a 6-0 guard/forward from Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.
She is currently ranked as the No. 1 wing junior college prospect in the country and the No. 4 overall junior college prospect according to The Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
