TUCSON, Ariz. -

Arizona women’s tennis is ranked No. 32 in the first Campbell/ITA College tennis rankings of 2012, the ITA announced on Wednesday.

In addition, three UA singles players and one doubles teams earned national rankings. Senior Natasha Marks (Nottingham, England) is slated as the No. 57 player and sophomores Kim Stubbe (Mol, Belgium) and Lacey Smyth (Oceanside, Calif.) are ranked No. 72 and 107, respectively. Together, Marks and Stubbe are listed as the No. 49 doubles team.

“We are truly excited about the progress we have made over the last few seasons,” Head coach Vicky Maes said. “Our team has worked hard at breaking deeper into the rankings and I'm very proud of where the group effort has taken us.”

The Wildcats return six players to a squad that went 15-7 in 2011 and earned a postseason bid in the NCAA Tournament, but will face a tough schedule as five teams from the Pac-12 Conference are ranked in the top 20.

“I feel we haven't even reached our full potential,” Maes said.  “We are facing an extremely challenging line up of matches this semester and I am excited to compete against all these teams with the group that I have.”

Arizona will open its season versus UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 21. The match is slated to take place at 11 a.m. at the Tucson Country Club.
