First Women's Golf Tournament is Behind The Wildcats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ?-In the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship the Wildcats women’s golf team shot a +23 (311), which would have landed the team the 11th spot for round number three.  Overall, the Wildcats placed 14th out of the 15 teams competing this weekend.


Prior to round three, host team Vanderbilt had been in the lead, however the Commodores shot a +28 (316) today, and finished the tournament in 8th place.  Duke continued their strong play in round three, and finished as the tournament champions. 


Arizona senior Lani Elston-Marshall led the Wildcats in the individual category for the third straight day.  Elston shot a +11 (83) in round three, and finished tied for 44th place.  After shooting a +9 in the first two rounds, Arizona freshman Sommer Scholl shot a +1 (73) in the final round today.  Scholl was one of the top five golfers in round three. 


Fellow Wildcat freshman Lauren Espinosa also had a good third round on Sunday.  Espinosa played her best round of the tournament today shooting a +5 (77), she finished in a tie for 66th place.


Today, Cassandra Kirkland shaved three strokes off from her finish on Saturday.  The Arizona senior shot a +6 (78) today, and ended the tournament tied for 46th place.  Whitney Welch shot a +11 (83) in the final round, and completed the tournament in a tie for 77th place. 


The Wildcats have a few weeks off before they head back to the course.  Arizona will next appear Oct. 10-12 for a tournament in Seattle, Wash.
