Women's Tennis Ends Road Trip, Falls to Texas, 4-3

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The No. 45 Arizona women's tennis team concluded their six-game road trip on Sunday with a close loss to No. 10 Texas, 4-3. The Wildcats won three of six singles matches including UA freshman Maja Mlakar's victory over Texas' Vlada Uhlirova, 7-6, 7-6.

Arizona sophomore Debbie Larocque won her singles match against Texas' Katie Ruckert, 6-1, 7-6.

In doubles action, the Wildcats dropped all three matches to the Longhorns.

On Friday evening, the Wildcats faced off against No. 18 Texas A&M and upset the Aggies, 5-2. Arizona won six of nine matches en route to their second win of the road trip. Mlakar and Larocque each provided the Cats with singles victories along with junior Daniela Torres and sophomore Marie-Pier Pouliot.

Mlakar won over A&M's No. 89 ranked Jessica Roland, 6-1, 6-3. Larocque tripped up A&M's Majorie Terburgh, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Pouliot defeated Leah Killen of A&M, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 while Torres beat A&M's Roberta Spencer 7-6 (7), 6-3.

In doubles action against the Aggies, Larocque and sophomore Perrine Pernin teamed up to knock off A&M's Killen and Martina Nedorostova, 8-5. UA freshman Dianne Hollands and senior Brooke Taylor earned a victory over A&M's Spencer and Terburgh, 8-6.

After winning two of six meets on the road trip, Arizona stands at 5-4 overall with a No. 45 ranking by the ITA.

The Wildcats next home match is a triangular meet March 6 against Lynn College and Northern Arizona. Arizona will square off against Lynn at 9 a.m. The match against Northern Arizona is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
