TEMPE--The Arizona women's soccer team rebounded from Friday's loss with a 3-1 win over Tennessee Sunday afternoon at the Sun Devil Desert Classic in Tempe.
Junior Renae Cuellar started things off for the Wildcats (2-3-1) in the second minute of play, with an unassisted shot past Tennessee (2-4) keeper Molly Baird.
Cuellar, who led Arizona with 8 shots on the day, made her sixth goal of the season early in the 17th minute, when she dribbled out from midfield and shot the ball over the keeper's reach.
The next goal scored came in the second half of play, with freshman Jensen Skinner taking a pass from Cuellar and shooting it to the far side of the goal. This is Jensen's second goal of her career.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Jett grabbed 9 Tennessee on goal attempts in her second win in the net.
"This was a very good win for us, especially after Friday's loss." Said head coach Lisa Oyen, "We responded very well, and did a lot better at protecting the net. We are a very solid team, and it's great to see us bounce back. It's a characteristic of this team that I am extremely proud of. Nebraska and Tennessee are both very good teams, and this was a great way to show our fans how we can come out and compete."
Next week, Arizona soccer returns to Mulcahy Stadium to host the Arizona Tournament. Arizona will take on Central Florida on Friday, September 17 at 7:30pm. On Sunday, the Wildcats will go head to head against Ohio State at 1pm.
