ARIZONA HEAD COACH Mike Candrea
General comment:

"I think that the first game of the tournament is the one that you're most concerned about as a coach. It seems like we've been scrambling to try to practice and get some sleep. And I was a little concerned with playing the early game, but we've got a win under our belt now. It feels good because Alabama is a good team and I give a lot of credit to them. They've come a long way and we knew they would be very competitive. The one disappointment I had was that we couldn't get ourselves kick-started emotionally. Emotions play a big part in this tournament and one thing we talked about after the game was making sure that we tried to understand that."

On Lovieanne Jung and Alicia Hollowell:
"My hats off to these two players. These two have had remarkable years and I think you can see why today. Lovieanne came up with the big hit and then I thought Alicia did a nice job today, especially with it being her first time here. She battled through her nerves and settled down and got some big outs for us, even in the inning where they scored."

ARIZONA SENIOR Lovieanne Jung
On the importance of energy and jump-starting the offense in the tournament: "It's a huge role because, if you looked at the game, once Alabama got a runner on base they were more energized. And the more energy you have, the more things tend to go your way."

ARIZONA FRESHMAN Alicia Hollowell
On her nerves during the game:

"I was nervous but I'm nervous before every game. I was probably a little bit more for this one, but I played through it. I didn't really come out throwing my game so it threw me off a little bit. But I settled in during the middle of the game and started mixing it up."

ALABAMA HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY
General comment:

"We've played Arizona many times and he (Mike Candrea) is the only one in the Pac-10 who's come to Tuscaloosa to play us. I appreciate that. The closest we've ever come to beating them was a 6-2 game in Tuscaloosa in 2000 when our seniors were freshmen. Everybody talks about parity in softball, but until somebody beats Arizona there really is none. It's a credit to him and his program. To bring this young of a team to the World Series and play them to a 3-2 game, we lost but I'm ecstatic. Holding their offense down to three runs, I'm pretty pleased.

On close calls:
"That ball right there (Capper Reed's foul) is a two-run single or double and Lacey Prejean hooks a home run. If she stays inside it by an inch then it's fair. I thought their kid got stronger as the game went on. It was really a quiet 13 strikeouts, that's really a great game for her. I didn't realize we had 13 strikeouts. It seemed like we were putting the ball in play a little bit more."

ALABAMA SOPHOMORE ASHLEY COURTNEY
On her two-run double:

"We had been struggling to get on base, so when (Staci) Ramsey and (Jaclyn) Wilkins got on, Coach told me my only choice here was to hit. I just decided it was my turn to do the right thing and get on base and do whatever it took. I just swung at the pitch and did something good with it."

On the game:
"When you come in as the No. 8 seed and face the No. 1 team in the nation and play them to a 3-2 game, knowing full well you could have beaten them, it's a great feeling. It could turn around and we might play them again. It was great to play the way that we did."

ALABAMA FRESHMAN STACI RAMSEY
On facing Alicia Hollowell:

"I knew that our team needed a spark, something to get everybody going and excited because we were a little down. I tried to see the pitches that I could. I saw the one that I did and just pulled it and prayed it got past third base."

On the team's confidence:
"When everybody started hitting a little bit more and making contact, our confidence got better. We came together as a team."
