TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona diving team is set to take on the competition at their home pool this weekend in the Wildcat Diving Invitational. Events will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The fourteen teams competing in the Invitational include Stanford, Arizona State, Northern Arizona, Wisconsin, Air Force, New Mexico State, Brigham Young, UNLV, and Nevada. Diving for ASU are Olympians Elina Eggers from Sweden and Riley McCormick from Canada. NCAA finalist and national champion Dwight Dumais from Stanford will also be diving.
The format for the invitational will be a championship style meet with a consolation round. The top eight finishers in the preliminaries advance to the finals, while finishers 9-16 will compete in the consolation. Platform diving will be on Sunday at 11 a.m. and is one list of dives only.
Arizona's key divers for all three events this weekend will be Ben Grado and Ainsley Oliver. The Cats also anticipate that freshman Cody Montgomery will place well on platform and Andres Guerra place in the finals on both springboards.
Arizona's next swimming and diving meet is not until Jan. 9 against Southern Methodist University but the Wildcat swimmers will compete in the Texas Invitational in Austin, Dec. 3-5.
