TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team will participate in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, April 6-7, at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
Now in its 40th year, the Thunderbird Invitational is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Karsten Golf Course, a par 71, 7,026-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, April 6 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. PDT. The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 7.
In addition to Arizona, 16 other teams are scheduled to compete, including host Arizona State, Ball State, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado State, Denver, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UC-Irvine, UNLV, UTSA, Washington and Wyoming.
Scheduled to represent the Wildcats will be Juan Pablo Hernandez, Erik Oja, Philip Bagdade, Trent Redfern and Tucker Wadkins. Brenden Redfern and Alex McMahon will compete in the event as individuals.
Arizona has won this event three times (1987, 1993, 2006) and finished as the runner-up five times (1988, 1992, 1997, 2000, 2004). Two Wildcats - Mike Springer in 1988 and Kipp Riehle in 2005 - have captured individual medalist honors at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
