This Week for the Wildcats: Arizona will play host to the Pacific Tigers at 11:30 a.m. this Friday, Jan. 27. On Saturday, the Cats will host the UC Davis Aggies at 2 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Wildcats opened their season last Saturday by defeating Northern Arizona 7-0 in Sedona, Ariz.
Perfect Starting at Home: Arizona has not lost its first home dual match of the season since 1994. With the exception of two years ago, the Wildcats have won each of their first two home matches in every season since 1994.
Against Pacific: No. 63 Pacific comes to Arizona to open its 2006 season. The last time the Wildcats and Tigers met was in 1997, when Arizona won, 6-3.
Scouting theTigers: Coach Bob Chiene returns for his third year, after a 15-6 record in 2005. Last season, the Tigers finished with a perfect 6-0 record against schools the Big West.
Against UC Davis: Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and Aggies, as last year’s match was rained out
Scouting the Aggies: UC Davis recently moved from Division II, to a Division I school. Aggies head coach Bill Maze enters his 11th year at UC Davis, finishing last season with a 4-16 record.
Wildcats in the Rankings: The wildcats start their season ranked at No. 59. Arizona is one of eight teams in the Pac-10 to be ranked.
Fall Action: After finishing the 2005 season with three ranked players, Arizona lost all three to graduation. Incoming freshman Tina Razloznik earned her place in the lineup when she took the singles title at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational after defeating San Diego State’s fourth-seeded Sisse Nielsen, 6-2, 6-4.
Next Week: Arizona will travel to Texas-Arlington and Southern Methodist University next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4. Following the away matches, the Wildcats will return home for two matches before going back on the road to Fresno State and Oklahoma on Feb. 17-18.
