Men's Golf Heads to Wyoming Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's golf team returns to the Phoenix area on Monday and Tuesday April 9 and 10 to compete in the Tenth Annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon at the North Course of the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Both days will begin with a 7:30 a.m. PT shotgun start, where the field will play 54 holes, two 18-hole rounds on Monday and a final 18-hole round on Tuesday. The North Course is a par-70, 7133-yard course.

The 24-team field includes host Wyoming, Colorado State, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Boise State, Nevada, Wichita State, Colorado, UC Davis, Kansas State, Air Force, Northern Colorado, New Mexico State, Santa Clara, Old Dominion, Cal State Northridge, Gonzaga, San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Weber State, Utah State, Kansas, Arizona. Along with Arizona (49), two other schools are ranked in the top-50: Wichita State (29) and Texas Tech (44).

Arizona's lineup for the invitational includes junior Juan Pablo Hernandez, sophomore Erik Oja, junior Trent Redfern, freshman Tucker Wadkins, and fellow freshman Alex McMahon. Freshman Brenden Redfern will compete as an individual.

At the 2011 Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Wildcat Tarquin McManus took home the individual award after shooting and eight-under 202 (66-70-66=202). McManus' score ranks as the best individual score of the Classic along with Troy Merrit of Boise State's 202 (-8) score from 2008.

Last time out, the Wildcats competed in the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. and finished with a final score of 295 (+11) to finish in 11th place. In a tie for 16th place, Oja collected his 6th top-20 finish of the season, and with (-2), was the only Cat to finish the tournament under par (211). The ASU Invitational was the third consecutive event where Oja Arizona's top finisher.

After carding a final round of 73 (+2), Hernandez finished in a tie for 48th (222/+9). As in individual, McMahon finished in a tie for 53rd with a 224 (+11).

Following the completion of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Arizona men's golf will compete in the Pac-12 Championships in Corvallis, Oregon April 27-29.
