Atlanta ?C The Arizona volleyball team had five players register double-figures in kills for a 3-1 win over Kentucky on Friday at the Regency Suites Classic.? Game scores were 31-29, 30-23, 26-30 and 32-30.? UA improves to 5-2 on the season while ending Kentuckyˇ?s (7-2) six-match winning streak.

ˇ?Todayˇ?s match was very close and hard-fought,ˇ± head coach Dave Rubio said.? ˇ?We almost gave it away at the end of game four, but our team played hard to pull out the win.ˇ±

Arizona hit .216 (70-32-176) in the match and tallied 13 team blocks, while holding Kentucky to a .154 (54-30-156) hitting percentage, over 100 percentage points below UKˇ?s season average.

Five Arizona Wildcats posted double-figures in kills led by junior Randy Goodenoughˇ?s 17 to go with 11 digs.? Junior Brooke Buringrud finished with 15 kills, and freshman Tiffany Owens tallied 13 kills.?

Senior Dominique Lamb had 12 kills and a season-high 10 blocks, and sophomore Jacy Norton finished with a career-high 12 kills on .550 hitting (12-1-20).? Freshman Paige Weber tallied 61 assists, and sophomore Alanna Resch posted 15 digs.

Queen Nzenwa led Kentucky with 16 kills.

Arizona and Kentucky battled close early in the first game, as the largest lead either team could manage was four points.? Kentucky went up 26-22, but Arizona used a 6-1 scoring run to take a 28-27 lead.? The Wildcats were tied down the stretch, but a Kentucky service error and hitting error gave Arizona a 31-29 game-one win.? Arizona hit .120 (18-12-50) in the game, and ended Kentuckyˇ?s 14-consecutive game winning streak.

UA was on fire in the second game, using a .375 (21-6-40) hitting percentage for a 30-23 win.? Arizona ran out to an early 5-1 lead and extended it to 17-8 midway.? Kentucky would get no closer than 25-20 down the stretch, but a 3-0 run put Arizona up 28-20, as the UA cruised to a seven-point win.

In the third game, Arizona trailed 10-5 early on, but battled to cut the deficit to 11-10.? Kentucky was powered by a .389 (19-5-36) hitting percentage, and was up by as many as eight points late to force a game four with a 30-26 win.

Game four was in Kentuckyˇ?s favor early, as the UK went up 12-6 on Arizona.? But the UA fought back, using a 12-2 run to take an 18-14 lead.? Arizona went up 29-24 on Kentucky, but UK used a late run to force UA to earn a 32-30 win late.

Arizona will next face Georgia Tech (10:30 a.m. EST) and Western Carolina (5:30 p.m. EST) on Saturday in the second day of the Regency Suites Classic.
