TUCSON, Ariz. - As a result of some stellar performances in 2009, four former University of Arizona men's golfers retained their playing privileges on the PGA Tour for next season.
Jim Furyk (1988-92), Rory Sabbatini (1994-98), Ted Purdy (1992-96) and Ricky Barnes (1999-2003) each finished high enough on the 2009 Money List to earn their tour cards next season.
The quartet claimed more than $8 million in earnings during the 2009 PGA Tour slate. Two former Wildcats, Furyk (7th/$3,946,515) and Sabbatini (18th/$2,752,291) finished in the top-20 places on the money list, ahead of Purdy (100th/$838,707) and Barnes (120th/$684,863).
"I'm very happy to retain my card in my first full year on tour," said Barnes. "As a rookie, the odds are against you, so to have retained full privileges for next season is a great feeling. I'm ready to put in all the hard work and effort needed to improve my standing next season."
In addition to the earnings, the group combined for one win, three runner-up finishes and a total of 17 top-10 finishes this season. Furthermore, they made the cut in 70 of 101 events played in 2009.
Barnes and Purdy will be the featured PGA professionals at the 31st annual Wildcat Golf Invitational on Friday, Nov. 20, at Tucson Country Club. For more information on participating, please click HERE.
