The University of Arizona women's basketball team has broken into the national rankings for the first time this season.

The Wildcats are ranked No. 22 in this week's Associated Press Poll and are No. 24 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Arizona was nationally ranked all last year and finished the season ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll.

Despite returning only two of last year's top eight scorers, the Wildcats have opened the 2001 season with a 12-2 overall record and swept California and then-No. 21 Stanford on the road last weekend to kick off Pac-10 play.
