TUCSON - Stephanie Nicholson's grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth gave Oklahoma State an eight-run victory over Virginia, 11-3.
Ruby Rojas' home run with two outs in the top of the first gave UVA the lead. Oklahoma State came back with a double by Lauren Bay to open the second and after a sacrifice, she scored on an infield ground-out by Stephanie Hodges.
The Cavaliers went back on top in the third. Heather Field singled, moved to third on a bunt single by Jessica Taylor when no one covered the bag, thenscored on a ground ball by Rojas.
A one-out single by Jade Lindly and an unsuccessful try at a force play put runners at first and second for OSU in the bottom of the fourth, then Nicholson hit an infield single to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Calli Behmer drove in a run to tie the game at two apiece by grounding to second.
Virginia regained the lead, 3-2, with an RBI single by Field after Lauren Dennis singled and stole second in the top of the fifth, but Hodges drove in one and Nicholson singled in two runs in the bottom of the frame for another Cowgirls' lead, 5-3. Later, three bases on balls, a hit batter and a double gave OSU two more runs in the sixth before Nicholson's blast.
