Philadelphia, Pa. ?- Arizona’s women’s tennis team completed the first two days of play at Penn’s Cissie Leary Invitational with each of its three players winning and losing at least one match.

Senior Kelly Perry, who had a first round bye, won her first two matches, defeating Harvard’ Stephanie Schnitter 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 32.  Perry then faced Penn State’s Maaria Husain, out dueling her 7-5, 6-4 in the round of 16.  The quarterfinal round pitted Perry against Julia Koulbitskaya, who beat Perry 6-4, 6-4.

Junior Iza Ferreira, the only Wildcat to play a first round match, defeated Molly Condit of Columbia 6-3, 6-0. Ferreira then fell to Harvard’s Susanna Lingman 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 32.  The loss sent Ferreira to the consolation bracket, where she played Harvard’s Melissa Anderson who also defeated Ferreira 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Camelia Todorova made a splash in her collegiate-debut, defeating Kaitlin Bevard of Penn State 6-1, 6-3 in the round of 32.  In the round of 16, Todorova fell to Katie Williams of Penn 6-4, 6-0.  Following her loss, Todorova defeated Harvard’s Cindy Chu 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in a round of 16 playoff that ends Todorova’s first tournament.  Todorova and Chu played together in the doubles bracket, losing in the first round.  The pair then won two matches before falling to Columbia’s Marlena Hall and Christina Kim 8-5.

Perry and Ferreira, Arizona’s doubles pair for the tournament, defeated Penn’s Raluca Ciochina and Kate Williams.  The round of 16 saw the Arizona pair against Harvard’s Melissa Anderson and Preethi Mukundan, with the Wildcat duo coming on top 8-4.  Perry and Ferreira faced another Harvard pair in the quarters, but this time it was the top-seeded Elisa O’Rianan and Courtney Bergman, who ended the Wildcat bid of a three-match win streak with an 8-1 victory.
