Tucson, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona women’s volleyball team (9-8, 0-5 Pac-10) held leads late in games two and three but could not close out No. 4 USC (17-0, 6-0 Pac-10) down the stretch, as the Women of Troy rallied for a three-game sweep over the Wildcats on Saturday night in McKale Center.  Game scores were, 30-19, 30-27, and 33-31.


Sophomore Brooke Buringrud led Arizona with 12 kills, and junior Dominique Lamb finished with nine kills.  Senior Stephanie Butkus chipped in with a match-high 36 assists. 


USC took control in the first game by using a 10-2 scoring run to earn a 17-7 advantage over Arizona, and kept that distance down the stretch for a 30-19 game one win.


Arizona battled USC close in game two.  With the game tied at 19-19, the Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to go up 26-21.  UA could not put USC away, as the Women of Troy countered with a 9-1 run at the end for a 30-27 game two win.


The Wildcats fought hard in the third game, taking USC the distance before falling 33-31. 


Arizona will next travel to Corvallis, Ore., on Thursday, Oct. 12 to take on Oregon State for a 7 p.m. match.
