3-0 at home with Friday's win over Cal.

Tucson , Ariz.-?After two tough road meets, the Arizona gymnastics team had its second home meet of the year against California.??The Cats had a solid meet defeating Pac-10 rival Cal 194.650-190.425 at McKale Center on Friday.? The final team score was also a season high for the Wildcats.? The Cats are now 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10, making it their first victory in the conference this season.

?

ˇ?We started great and ended great tonightˇ± stated head coach Bill Ryden.? A true statement, as the Wildcats began the night on vault with the top five scores being awarded to Arizona gymnasts.? Junior Breanne Workman took first with a 9.800, while freshmen Colleen Fisher tied for second with senior Karin Wurm with a 9.775.

?

On bars, things began to get a bit tense for the team as they suffered a few unexpected falls. Nevertheless, Wurm took first with a 9.875 and redshirt junior Sarah Specht notched second place with a 9.800.

?

ˇ?On bars we really have a lack of depth, so we really need to start hitting our routines until we have some healthy people backˇ± said Ryden.

?

As the team moved to its third event of the night, beam, they pulled through with no falls for the night, although there were a few mistakes.

?

ˇ?We stayed on well, but we were a bit tenseˇ± Ryden said.?

Arizonaˇ?s senior Danielle Hicks and junior Briana Bergeson took first and second place with scores of 9.875 and 9.775, respectively.

?

The Wildcats ended the night strong on floor, scoring a 48.925, another season high.? Junior Sarah Specht also tied her career high score of 9.850, placing her first, while junior Breanne Workman placed second with a 9.825.

?

ˇ?We are coming along slow and painful, not fast, but we are definitely improvingˇ± said Ryden.

?

With a good portion of the season left, the Ryden said that the team is waiting for the meet where they can leave it all on the floor, knowing they did their absolute best.

The Wildcats head back out on the road again next week taking on Illinois-Chicago in Chicago, Ill., at 5 p.m. CDT
