FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Sophomores Isabelle Boineau and Margarita Ramos each fired 4-under rounds of 68 to lead Arizona to an opening round total of 2-under par 286, Friday morning at the Mason Rudolph Championships hosted by Vanderbilt University.
The 6,271-yard par-72 Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club course was no match for the pair of second-year players. They each fired five birdies on the day against just one bogey to each shoot their career low as Wildcats.
Junior Alejandra Llaneza shot even par on the day, but will have been disappointed by a double-bogey on the final hole that ruined what looked like a third under-par round for the Wildcats. She bounced back from a bogey on 17 to fire three-straight birdies on holes two through four before her struggles on the 9th hole.
Arizona, who is tied with LSU after the opening round, trails co-leaders USC and Auburn by eight strokes. Candace Schepperle of Auburn and Jennifer Song of USC share the day one individual lead sit after firing matching 6-under rounds of 66. Boineau and Ramos sit just two shots off the pace in a four-way tie for 4th place.
Round two tees off just after 8:00 a.m. local time in Tennessee with the Wildcats switching over to the first tee for its second set of 18 holes.
