12.18.11 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Notes Get Acrobat Reader

TUCSON -Arizona and Arkansas-Pine Bluff will continue the 2011-12 women's basketball slate with a contest on Sun., Dec. 18. Set to start at 1 p.m. CT, the Wildcats and the Lions will play at UAPB's H.O. Clemmons Arena, in Pine Bluff.

Arizona is 8-1 on the season, including 4-0 on the road. The Cats are paced by sophomore guard Davellyn Whyte's 18.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. She is backed up by sophomore guard Candice Warthen's 16.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and sophomore forward Erica Barnes' 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Senior guard Shanita Arnoldhands out 4.8 assists per game. UA is shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from behind the arc and 70.8 percent from the charity stripe.

Sunday's game will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Arnold. A native of Fort Smith, Ark., she played her first two seasons of collegiate basketball at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville before transferring to Arizona. Sunday's game at Pine Bluff is approx. 200 miles from Arnold's hometown where her family resides.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 0-8 on the season and will play its first home game of the season vs. Arizona on Sunday. The Lions are led by Lakendra Marsh's 9.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Carlisha Walker paces UAPB at the glass with 4.3 boards per contest. The Lions are shooting 28.5 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from three-point range and 60.7 percent from the free throw line.

Arizona and Arkansas-Pine Bluff will meet for just the second time on Sunday. Last season, the Wildcats won the first meeting between the two teams, 93-54. Warthen led the Wildcat scorers with a season-high 15 points. Whyte (14), Brooke Jackson (13), Soana Lucet (13) and Ify Ibekwe(12) also scored in double digits for Arizona. Of the 10 Wildcats who saw game action, all scored at least three points. UA also put together a balanced front at the glass with Ibekwe (9), Lucet (6) and Barnes (6) leading the way.

Arizona ranks in the top three in the Pac-12 in scoring offense (76.8), free throw percentage (70.8), three point field goal percentage (38.1), turnover margin (+3.4), offensive rebound percentage (40.3) and three point field goals made (7.1). Individually, Davellyn Whyte and Candice Warthen rank fifth and sixth, respectively, with 18.1 and 16.8 points per game. Erica Barnes ranks sixth in rebounds with 9.3 per contest. Shanita Arnoldshares No. 3 in assists per game with 4.8.
