TUCSON, Ariz.- The 15th-ranked Arizona volleyball team defeated the University of British Columbia 3-1 in an exhibition match Friday night at the Nike Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Game scores were 30-22, 19-30, 30-27, 34-32. The exhibition victory does not count towards Arizona's season record.
Freshman Kim Glass and seniors Lisa Rutledge and Shannon Torregrosa teamed up to record 45 of Arizona's 61 kills in the match.
Glass led all players with 18 kills on .313 hitting. It is the sixth match this season in which she has recorded double-digit kills and the fourth in which she has led the Wildcats.
Rutledge tallied her second double-double of the season with 17 kills on a match-high .433 hitting to go along with her 10 digs. Torregrosa finished with 10 kills and three total blocks. Senior setter Laurie Gardner equaled her season high in dishing out 50 assists.
Despite the win, the Wildcats were still plagued with errors in both passing and serving. As a team, Arizona recorded 27 service errors and misplayed 19 UBC serves. The Wildcats did however manage to hold UBC to .096 hitting for the match while out-digging them 44 to 28.
Arizona returns to regular season action on Saturday with a match against St. Mary's (Calif.) and a rematch with 2001 Sweet Sixteen opponent and host school No. 21 Pacific.
