SEATTLE, Wash. - The Arizona women's golf team stands in fourth place Monday after its first day of competition at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
The Wildcats shot an 11-over-par 299 to trail first-round leader California by 14 strokes after the Golden Bears shot a 3-under-par 285. Southern California (294) and UCLA (297) occupy second and third places, respectively. BYU holds the fifth position with a 12-over-par 300.
Individually Arizona sophomore Whitney Welch is tied for tenth place with two other golfers after shooting a first round 73 (+1). This is the Las Vegas, Nev. native's first break into the top ten this season.
Junior Mar Garcia is tied for 13th place after shooting 2-over-par 74 in round one. Sophomore Erica Blasberg and sophomore Lani Elston are tied for 26th at 4-over-par 76. While sophomore Cassandra Kirkland is tied for 49th after shooting 8-over-par 80.
The Wildcats will tee off in Tuesday's second round beginning at 9:50 a.m. PST. The tournament is being played at Sahalee Country Club, a par 72, 6,030-yard layout.
