?

Hello again GymCat Fans!

?

After a stellar home opener, our ˇ?Flipping for the Fightˇ± meet two weeks ago won us another home meet for the second week in a row. Not only was it a good meet, it was for a great cause. The excitement for the meet started the day before when we received beautiful blue and pink leotards in honor of our Breast Cancer Awareness Meet. We started the meet on vault and once again were extremely consistent on this event. Bree Workmanˇ?s sky-high vault ended up with a 9.85 to win this event. Next we went from bars to beam where we had small errors, but nothing we canˇ?t easily fix as we continue the eyar. Some highlights of bars included Karin Wurmˇ?s beautiful routine which earned a well deserved 9.9. After a few mistakes on beam, once again junior Danielle Hicks stepped up and showed why she is No. 8 in the country on this event, posting a 9.85. After minor mistakes on beam and bars, we were ready to show our fans just what an amazing floor team we have. That is just what we did. We had so much enthusiasm and excitement and this really showed in everyoneˇ?s routines. Aubrey Kelly and Karin Wurm shared the floor title with matching scores of 9.875ˇ?s. Karin Wurm also ended up winning the meet for the second weekend in a row. The great floor rotation helped us conclude the meet and have another successful win!

Now with two great home meets under our belt, we traveled to Washington this past weekend to take on the Huskies. One of the coolest things about being on this team is being able to not only travel to amazing places, but really experience the cities we go to. As a team we went to the Fish Market in downtown Seattle and did some unique shopping. No matter what activities we do as a team, we always seem to have a great time. After we explored around Seattle it was now time to get down to business. We all knew we were ready to have a great meet on the road, and this is just what we did! We started the meet on bars and did not score less than a 9.7. Once again Karin Wurm won this event with another beautiful routine. After a great bar rotation we went to vault with energy and confidence. Once again we showed just what a great vault team we were posting a no- to-shabby 48.975. I ended up sharing this title with Washingtonˇ?s Ashley Houghting. Up next we went to floor and unfortunately had minor mistakes which kept us from posting a score we were capable of. Freshman Miranda Russell and senior Aubrey Kelly posted matching 9.75ˇ?s to lead the Wildcatˇ?s on this event. After floor we came together as a team and were ready to show everyone what an amazing beam team we have. We went to beam with confidence and integrity and our routines showed both of these attributes. We were once again led by junior Danielle Hicks who also won this event with a 9.85. Danielle has got to be one of the most incredible and consistent gymnasts in the country on this event. We ended up with a 48.9 on beam, which is our second highest of the season. For the third time in a row Karin Wurm won this meet with a combined all around total of a 39.15. Way to go Karin! This is exactly the kind of meet we needed on the road. Itˇ?s incredible to know that we are getting great scores and we still have so much to improve on. I canˇ?t wait to see what the rest of the season brings to us! Way to go Cats!

?

On a different note, so far the GymCats have done more community service hours than any other U of A athletic team! Go Cats!

?

Donˇ?t forget to come to our next home meet on February the 16th as we take on Stanford! This season looks to continue to be a great one for the Wildcats! Hopefully see you all this weekend!
