Prouty top individual finisher with a tie for 14th place

 

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf junior varsity team finished in 10th place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.

 

Arizona’s 46-over-par 898 total placed the team 10th in the field of 12, 36 strokes behind tournament-winner Lamar.  UA carded totals of 297, 298 and 303 in the three-round event.  Denver (865), Long Beach State (866) and UC-Irvine (866), and UC-Santa Barbara(878) rounded out the top-five places.

 

Arizona was led by sophomore Brian Prouty, who collected his second career top-20 finish.  Competing as an individual, Prouty carded a five-over-par 218 en route to a tie for 14th place.

 

Also posting a top-20 finish for the Wildcats was sophomore Mark Lamb.  He carded a seven-over 220 and finished the event in a tie for 20th place.  It was Lamb’s first top-20 finish of the season and the third of his career.

 

Freshman Justin Silverstein shot a 14-over 227 and finished tied for 48th place.  Freshman Trey Denton tied for 50th place with a 16-over 229 total, while sophomore Ben Marsh finished in 53rd place after carding an 18-over 231 total.  Freshman Tyler Neal tied for 56th place with a 20-over 233 total.

 

The Del Walker Intercollegiate was contested at Virginia Country Club, a par 71, 6,584-yard layout.

 

The Arizona varsity will next be in action, Nov. 14-16, at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship in Orlando, Fla.
