What does this senior class mean to the Arizona womenˇ?s soccer program?? Everything.? Coach Dan Tobias first recruiting class and was made up of goalkeeper McCall Smith, midfielder Sarah Litt, defenders Kaity Heath and Claire Bodiya.

?

McCall Smith committed to the U of A before Coach Tobias could even settle himself in Tucson.? On her first trip to Tucson, Smith knew that this was where she belonged and committed on the spot.? Tobias knew that the first step to rebuild a program that had struggled for most of its existence was to get a top-flight goalkeeper to anchor his defense.

?

ˇ?You will always remember your first commitment.? I canˇ?t put into words how much she has meant to me and this program,ˇ± said Tobias.? ˇ?When she got here she just jelled with the team and all the girls here thought she was just great.ˇ±

?

Unfortunately for Smith injuries plagued the end of her career at UA.? A knee injury prior to her junior year forced her to redshirt during the 2006 season and ultimately ended her career that following summer.

?

ˇ?The saddest part of McCallˇ?s story is that she was limited to just two seasons.? Sheˇ?s a competitor and loves to play,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?In just two seasons, she broke every season and career goalkeeping record.? She has set a very high standard now.ˇ±

?

Sarah Littˇ?s commitment brought excitement to Coach Tobias because he knew he was on the right track to rebuilding the Wildcat program.? ˇ?With Sarah being from Washington, I was thrilled that she was even interested in coming to Arizona,ˇ± said Tobias.

?

Sarah brought an attacking mentality to the Arizona midfield position.? A mentality that served her well when she saw game action.? ˇ?She is extremely bright, very fun loving and she brings those traits to the field with her,ˇ± said Tobias.? ˇ?I can best describe her time here as a growing experience.? She grew tremendously as a person, a student, and a player. As a coach thatˇ?s what you ask for.ˇ±

?

Halley Brown was not part of Coach Tobias original recruiting class.? Brown joined the Arizona soccer team four weeks into this season, when injuries left the Cats to have just one healthy goalkeeper.

?

ˇ?It can be a challenge for a team and an individual when someone new is brought into the mix once the season has already started,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?But Halley and the team were able click almost immediately.ˇ±

?

A calm and composed personality served Brown well when she was thrown into game action following another injury to a Cats goalkeeper.? ˇ?She carries that calm and composed personality to the field with her,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?After getting to know Halley over these six weeks, I wish I could have coached her for four years.ˇ±

?

Kaity Heath, a two time co-captain for the Arizona soccer program, brought a competitive attitude with her from Gilbert, Ariz.? The determination to never lose is what Coach Tobias believes drives her on the field.? ˇ?She hates to lose and thatˇ?s all a coach can ask for, you canˇ?t teach that,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?She is probably the most competitive of these five seniors.ˇ±? As a freshman Kaity helped anchor a defense that started two other freshman, Smith and Claire Bodiya. ?It was a defense that posted 11 shutouts and only allowed multiple goals once.

?

ˇ?Off the field Kaity is the team mom, she makes sure that everyone has everything they need and she always has something interesting to say,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?She is a task master, when she decides she wants to do something she does it.ˇ±

?

Claire Bodiya had a mature attitude the moment she stepped on to campus in 2004.??ˇ?While having the maturity upon arriving here, Claire still had areas in which to improve on,ˇ± Tobias said.??Like Heath, Bodiya is a two-year co-captain and anchors the Wildcats defense.? ??

?

Bodiya the ultimate leader by example and is always looking to improve her game.? According to Tobias, ˇ?she knew she had to work the hardest to squeeze the most out of her ability.ˇ±? Like any good leader, she is also unselfish when it comes to personal statistics; it wasnˇ?t until her 63rd game with the Wildcats that she scored her first collegiate goal.

?

Tobias can best describe this class ˇ?as a class full of personality and attitude from the moment they stepped on campus.ˇ±??This class has been through it all, being part of the three best teams Arizona has ever had, winning a Pac-10 championship in 2004, and advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2005.?

?

ˇ?McCall, Sarah, Kaity, and Claire came to Arizona because they believed in my vision, wanted to be a part of something special, and set new standards,ˇ± Tobias said.
