TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite receiving more first-place votes than any other team in the poll, Arizona is ranked third in the first spring edition of the National Golf Coaches Association Division I coaches poll.
The Wildcats, with 15 first-place votes and 898 points, stand third in the poll behind top-ranked Auburn (914 points, 12 first-place votes) and second-ranked Duke (912 points, 6 first-place votes). Oklahoma State is fourth, while Vanderbilt rounds out the top five. Arizona is the highest-ranked of six Pac-10 teams featured in the poll.
In its first action of the spring, Arizona finished third in the rain-shortened Regional Challenge. Freshman Erica Blasberg tied for second at the Regional Challenge to earn her fourth consecutive top-three finish. She leads the team with a scoring average of 72.28.
Arizona next plays host to the Wildcat Invitational, its lone home tournament, on Feb. 24-26 at Arizona National Golf Club at Sabino Springs. The tournament features 18 teams, including eight ranked in the top 25 of the coaches' poll.
