WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - University of Arizona senior
outside hitter Tiffany Owens has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Oct. 4-10, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The San Bernardino, Calif., native spurred Arizona's back-to-back road wins at Oregon State and No. 13 Oregon with 55 kills and 46 digs over the two matches. Against the Beavers, Owens rattled off a career-high 32 kills on .426 hitting and 20 digs. She then followed up that performance with 23 kills and a career-high 26 digs in UA's 3-2 upset win over the 13th ranked Ducks.
For the season, Owens leads Arizona in kills and digs with 268 and 203, respectively. In terms of conference rankings, Owens is fourth among Pac-10 players with 102 kills (4.86 kps) in five conference matches
This is the third weekly honor for Owens, and Arizona's 28th Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
Arizona's four-match win streak is currently tops in the conference. The Wildcats are also a perfect 5-0 when playing on the road this season.
This weekend Arizona will host No. 10 UCLA and No. 5 USC in the McKale Center. The Cats will face off against the Bruins Friday evening before taking on the Trojans on Saturday night. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. MST.
