PORTLAND, Ore. ?- The most successful postseason run in the history of the Arizona women’s soccer program came to an end with a 4-0 loss to top-ranked Portland at Menlo Field on Friday night. The loss halted UA’s 2005 College Cup Tournament run in the third round and capped the historic season for the Wildcats with a final record of 11-8-3.

"First off, I'd like to congratulate the University of Portland," Arizona head coach Dan Tobias said. "I've been coaching soccer for a long time and the 2005 Portland team is one of the best I've had the pleasure to coach against. I thought we played well in the second half of the game, but we just couldn't put it together. I'm proud of the effort we had tonight and throughout the postseason."

Backed by a 10-3 advantage in shots, the Pilots jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first 45 minutes of play.

UP’s Megan Rapinoe opened the scoring in the contest with a goal at the 17:08 mark in the first half on a ball that found the lower left-hand corner of the goal past a diving McCall Smith for a 1-0 lead. Rapinoe was fed across the penalty box by sophomore teammate Natalie Budge who earned the assist.

Budge came up with her second helper of the first half on a scoring opportunity by senior Lindsey Huie. Playing the ball deep in the right-hand corner of the box, Budge offered a pass to Huie who found an opening in the upper right corner of the net for UP’s scored score in the game

UA’s best scoring opportunity in the opening half came on a shot by senior Mallory Miller towards the upper right corner. UP’s Cori Alexander snagged the ball and pulled it in for the save to keep UA off the scoreboard.

UP maintained its two-goal lead in the second half befored it closed out the scoring with a pair of late tallies in the final 10 minutes of play. Rapinoe tallied her second score of the night on an assist from Lisa Sari at the 83:00 minute mark in the second half for a 3-0 advantage and Elsa Hume capped off the night at 89:21 with a scoring kick on a Rapinoe assist.
