SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
Four players recorded double-digit kills and the Arizona volleyball team (13-6, 5-5) won its third-straight match with its victory over Utah (8-12, 3-8) on Saturday in Salt Lake City. The Wildcats defeated the Utes, 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22).
“This was a really gutsy win for us,” Arizona head coach David Rubio said. “Our players were so good, so confident and they found a way to get it done.”
Seniors Courtney Karst (Centennial, Colo.), Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles) and Marketa Hanzlova (Liberec, Czech Republic) each recorded 17, 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman Taylor Arizobal (Dana Hills, Calif.) added a career-high 11 kills for the Wildcats.
“Courtney and Cursty continue to be great leaders for us and Marketa really stepped up for us tonight,” Rubio said. “Everyone really stepped up and played exceptionally.”
Utah outhit the Wildcats in the first set, but Arizona took the upper hand in the remaining three.
Arizona’s kills-leader freshman Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) did not play due to injury.
The Wildcats will return to McKale Center on Friday, Oct. 21 to take on No. 7 Stanford at 7 p.m. and No. 4 California on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
