TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona men’s golf team is currently tied for eighth after one round of play at the 2007 ASU/Thunderbird Invitational. The Wildcats carded a one-under par 287 on Friday to tie with the University of California. Leading the 15 team field is the University of Oregon with a score of 277 (-11), one stroke ahead of fellow Pac-10 team University of Southern California.
Individually, Derek Sipe of Oregon stands in first place after carding a seven-under par 65 in the first round.
Senior Josh Esler leads the Wildcats with a score of 70 (-2) to tie for 11th after the first round.
Freshman Pete Oriol is tied for 31st after carding an even-par 72, one stroke ahead of senior Nathan Tyler who currently stands in a tie for 44th place.
Junior Trey Denton and senior Brian Prouty are tied for 58th after shooting a two-over par 74 on Friday.
Sophomore Ben Fox is tied for 73rd with a score of 76 (+4). Senior Ben Marsh is one stroke behind Fox and stands in a tie for 78th place.
The tournament continues tomorrow with a second round tee time of 7:30am.
