Arizona sophomore Kim Stubbe (Mol, Belguim) advanced to the final singles round at the Memphis Invitational on Saturday at The Racquet Club in Memphis, Tenn.
Stubbe defeated Memphis’ Alyssa Hibberd in straight-sets in the quarterfinals and Tulsa’s Anastasia Erofeeva, 7-5, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Stubbe will also join senior Natasha Marks (Nottingham, England) in the doubles semifinals on Sunday.
“We had another good day at the courts,” Arizona head coach Vicky Maes said. “Tomorrow, we look forward to Kim’s final as well as her doubles semis with Tash. Everyone will also get another singles round, so we will have some extra opportunities to make improvements.”
Sophomore Lacey Smyth (Oceanside, Calif.) and Marks advanced to the semifinals, but fell in their respective matchces.
“Lacey made it to the semis after battling back from a set and 1-3 down to win 7-6 in the third.,” Maes said. “This kind of effort is inspiring for everyone. Tash, Susan, Debora and Hailey all split their singles matches today and we saw some good tennis out of them as well.”
The Wildcats return to the court on Sunday, Nov. 6 to wrap up the tournament.
