Walnut Creek, Calif. (March, 29) - The Pac-10 Conference announced Friday that Arizona gymnast Lindsay Compitello has been named to the 2002 Pac-10 Conference's All-Academic First Team. This is the second-consecutive year Compitello has received First-Team All-Conference academic honors.

Compitello, a 5-2 senior from Downingtown, Pa., has competed on beam and floor in eight meets for the Wildcats this season. She recorded a season-high 9.250 on beam against Washington on February 22. She is one of three senior captains for the Wildcats and has maintained a 3.75 grade-point average this season while majoring in communications.

Throughout her career, Compitello has received many academic honors. She was named a National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Scholastic All-American in 2000 and 2001, and earned Mary Roby Academic Achievement Awards in 1999, 2000 and 2001. She was also named to the 2001 Pac-10 Conference's All-Academic First Team.

To be eligible for selection to the conference's academic teams, a student must have a 3.0 overall grade-point average, and be a starter or significant substitute for their team.

Arizona will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the 2002 South Central Regional Championship on Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. (MST).
