IRVINE, Calif. - Arizona senior Michelle Gough defeated Nevada-Las Vegas' Agnieszka Abram, 6-0, 7-6, Sunday to advance to the championship match of the ITA Region VIII Tournament.

Gough will square off against third-seeded Jewel Peterson of Southern California in the finals. Last year, Gough and Peterson faced each other twice with each winning one. Gough got the better of Peterson in the second match, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

In doubles play, Gough and teammate, junior Lindsay Blau kept their title repeat hopes alive winning their quarterfinal and semifinal round matches.

The third seeded duo notched victories over Pepperdine's Cintia Tortorella and Monika Horvath, 8-4, in the quarterfinals and San Diego State's pair of Whitney Wells and Katja Karrento, 8-6, in the semifinals.

Gough and Blau will look to repeat as champions when they face the No. 1 seeded team in the tournament, Paola Palencia and Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine.

Gough will compete in the singles championship match Monday at 9 a.m. PST. with the doubles finals to follow.
