TUCSON -- Kenzie Fowler struck out 14 and six Wildcats tallied an RBI in Arizona's 8-0 win over Arizona Western in both teams' first game at the Arizona Fall Classic on Friday afternoon at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The freshman hurler allowed two hits in six innings before being relieved by Ashley Ralston-Alvarez before the seventh, who retired her first two batters. Sarah Akamine made an appearance with two outs and gave up a hit, but closed the game with a groundout.
Top two hitters Brittany Lastrapes and Lauren Schutzler led the Arizona attack, scattering three hits apiece. Baillie Kirker tallied two hits herself, and a host of others combined to total 13 UA hits.
Up Next: Arizona will play New Mexico and Central Arizona on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
